There has always been a heated debate around the appeal of high fashion, with many castigating the exorbitant prices and often unconventional designs. But even among the most controversial of the scene, no house is more controversial than Balenciaga, whose upcoming collaboration with adidas has drawn even more criticism. It’s likely that the intricacies of the Stan Smith from the collection – which was just revealed in more detail earlier today – will add even more fuel to the flame.
Unlike its accompanying Triple S and Sock Runner, the Balenciaga x adidas Stan Smith is a more twisted take on the silhouette it redesigns. Designer Demna and his team took the original and put it to the test, wearing the shoe to the point where it appears flat in its overall shape. The underfoot sole and leathers throughout the upper are additionally chiselled and distressed, resulting in a heavily distressed (and more expensive) take on a much-loved tennis classic.
