The East Lancashire designer behind trainer adidas Spezial returns to his former college tomorrow to give students a career briefing.

Gary Aspden, whose adidas Spezial exhibit in October 2019 drew thousands to Blackburn as part of the British Textile Biennial, will return to Blackburn College on Wednesday.

Gary, brand consultant for adidas, will talk to students about potential careers in marketing, design and technology.

There will be two sessions available for students, one from 11 p.m. to 12 p.m. and one from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

All students are encouraged to speak with their tutors if they wish to reserve a time slot for any of the sessions, which will be held in the Conference Theater at the University Center.

The adidas Spezial exhibit was an important part of the UK Textile Biennale, with 1,200 pairs of sneakers on display from Gary’s personal collection and on loan from collectors around the world.

The British Textile Biennale brought together more than 50,000 people, including many celebrities such as Sir Bradley Wiggins.

In February of last year, Gary gifted each member of the Blackburn College Estates team a pair of adidas Spezial shoes as a thank you for their contribution to his exhibit.

Among the shoes offered were a pair of Stan Smiths and a pair of SL 72s, the latter of which were originally produced for the 1972 Olympics in Munich.
