What about travel deals?

Travel deals can be a little scarce during the holidays – not completely gone, but not as good as they have been in the past.

“A lot of people are eager to travel after spending the majority of the past two years at home, but that doesn’t mean the deals are there,” said Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst at Deal News. “The demand is very high, so there is no real reason for airlines, hotels and cruise lines to offer any type of incentive to attract travelers.”

Ramhold said some of the best deals his team saw last year were in Mexico and the Caribbean, so it might behoove vacationers ready to go to seek out deals in those two destinations.

Tips from the pros

While Labor Day sales will have their share of plums, this is no one-time savings treat. Black Friday experts tell ConsumerAffairs that when it comes to electronics, TVs and toys, Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales could offer more than Labor Day. They also suggested skipping fall clothes and even Halloween decorations because better prices are coming.

Another BlackFriday.com trick is to use discount codes and coupons. “Be sure to apply discount codes and stack cashback offers on top of retailer sales for even more savings. Sites like RetailMeNot are offering up to 15% cash back at hundreds of department stores like Adidas, Best Buy, Home Depot and Sephora,” a BestBlackFriday spokesperson said.

At Deal News, Ramhold noted that the devices could be very good values during Labor Day. She said if last year is any indication — a year when Home Depot slashed appliances by 53% — it might be worth checking out the big box stores this time around.

“Keep an eye out for Best Buy to offer savings on appliances as well. Last year, there were Labor Day discounts on all major brands, including Samsung, LG, GE and Whirlpool, among others,” Ramhold suggested.

Another pro tip came from the latest US News & World Report shopping habits inflation survey. In his study, he found that thanks to inflation, couponing is back in fashion.

“Voucher clubs have gone virtual, with expert advice in the form of social media influencers,” said Lauren Naru of US News. “Popular coupon advisors like City Coupon Mom, Coupon with Kayla, and CouponingCraz have hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic followers interested in money-saving strategies.”

Finally, a RetailMeNot spokesperson suggested stacking cashback offers on retailer sales for even bigger savings. They said shoppers will find 15% cash back at hundreds of top stores on their deals-focused site, including Adidas, Best Buy, Home Depot and Sephora.
