Lady White Co. opens second flagship store in Los Angeles

When you invest in premium craftsmanship – like Lady White Co. (LWC) – aesthetic design comes naturally. Take a look at the interior of LWC’s second flagship store in its hometown of Los Angeles, rendered thoughtfully dull to reflect the brand’s masterfully muted color palette.

Drab doesn’t mean boring here, mind you, I’m just referring to Lady White Co.’s preference for desaturated hues. While not afraid of rich colors, LWC often leans harshly toward washed-out grays, tans, blues and creams; lively tones, relaxed tones.

LWC founder Phillip Proyce previously operated County Ltd., which offered both Lady White Co. sportswear and fine furniture. He separated them each into separate businesses (the latter is now a counter-space), but that penchant for interior design remains.

LWC’s Compact Boutique in LA is a cozy room in the Arts District near a Maru coffee and wine store, filled with chunky white boxes that mirror the square side of the wooden tables. It probably wouldn’t make a big, superficial impression, but like his clothes, it flourishes under closer scrutiny.

I initially got the feel of a school from the store’s selection of materials, gradient gray walls, hanging tube lamps, and a simple clock face. This is no coincidence, as Proyce drew inspiration from “modest municipal environments”.

A closer inspection reveals the intentionality of the furniture and its cargo, which includes clothing (naturally), Reproduction of Found sneakers, art books, and magazines.

Take a closer look at the sturdy stool in its three-legged glory, the subtle asymmetry of the cubby-fitted tables, the humbly prosaic doors that lead to the dressing room. LWC holds up a magnifying glass for the socialite and amplifies the inherent beauty.

The LWC store isn’t quite a blank slate – there’s a quiet personality involved – but it’s a deserving, distraction-free environment in which to experience the joys of deliciously well-made clothes.
