PLAY, an Iceland-based low-cost airline that launched this summer with a “pay for what you need” model, announced Thursday that it will enter service in the United States this spring in Boston and Baltimore.

Travelers can now book tickets to 22 European destinations, including Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, London, Paris, and more from Logan International Airport and Thurgood Marshall International Airport in Baltimore/Washington, according to the airline.

Boston service begins May 11 and Baltimore service begins April 20.

The airline says its “pay for what you need” model keeps fares affordable. Passengers receive a personal item but pay extra for upgrades such as checked baggage, meals, extra legroom, etc.

“PLAY offers a streamlined, no-frills service without expensive features like magazines, Wi-Fi and entertainment, allowing travelers to pay less and ‘play more,'” according to the airline.

PLAY offers flights for $109 to 11 European destinations when purchased before December 24 to celebrate its US launch. Offer is valid for return flights from Boston and Baltimore scheduled between May-June 2022 and August-October 2022.

“We are proud to expand the PLAY service in the United States with service to Boston and Baltimore, offering American and European travelers a new way to reach iconic destinations,” PLAY CEO Birgir Jónsson said in a statement. communicated. “With our reliable and affordable flights, travelers can enjoy their destination rather than spending too much on the flight to get there.”

The airline has a COVID-19 Flexibility Policy which allows changes and cancellations of reservations.
